At the very southern tip if the Dark Continent, Dutchmen, French Huguenots, and other protestants fled to her cape to escape religious persecution. They became the “Afrikaners,” “Boers,” the “white tribe of Africa.” But soon she fell under British reign. In the 20th century, she escaped decolonization at the only first world nation in the continent, under the bootheels of Apartheid, a strict racial segregation of Blacks, Whites, and Coloureds.
Then came the Spirit of ‘94 (Afrikaans: die Gees van ’94). The nation was racially integrated. The “Rainbow Nation” was born. Therewith came the first multiracial elections, where the black African National Congress, ANC, came to power, overshadowing the minority white parties.
So has it been since ’94.
Not, 25 years later, South Africa lies in ruins. The ANC has run her into the ground. Rich in ores, the people are poor. Vast in farmable land, people starve. The cities lay in bloodsoaked ruins. The Afrikaner & otherwise European minority of 8.9% of the nation (roughly 4,586,838 people, of whom around 3 million are Afrikaners) pay 80% of the taxes (technically just 3.3 million of them pay 99%, with about 1/3rd of Afrikaners being homeless). Widely blamed for all the troubles of the nations by the black majority and the ANC, GenocideWatch has put the Afrikaners under stage 6 of genocide (stages). The idea of taking all their land, without compensation, is even cheered at by huge black and coloured crowds. The nation’s president and head of the ANC, Jacob Zuma, is a corrupt rapist. Deadly disease, including HIV/AIDS, spreads daily. The country is beset with ethnic strife between the many tribes of the Rainbow. And that’s just the tip of the South African iceberg.
In short, under her current course, South Africa desperately needs needs antibiotics that it has little chance of receiving. The remedy may well be time, or it may likely never come. If things continue as they do, South Africans may well find out what lies at the end of the rainbow.
